Tennessee Education Commissioner Candice McQueen is leaving her post in January to run a non-profit organization.Gov. Bill Haslam appointed McQueen education commissioner in 2015. She is leaving that position to become CEO of the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching, a non-profit group that helps states, districts and schools attract, develop and retain educators.

State officials say Tennessee’s unemployment rate for October remains near historic lows, despite a slight increase.
