The Streets and Sanitation Committee met Tuesday night and one of the discussions was the closing Bridgebuilders Road to through traffic. Resident Danny Gillette sent a letter to City Administrator Nolan Ming requesting the closure. Gillette told the committee that the road is very narrow and not adequate for two-way traffic. Plus with children in the area raises a lot of safety concerns. The committee decided to table it and give notice to landowners and make sure it’s done correctly to closing it for through traffic.
In city board news, with no opposition during the public hearing, an ordinance passed on first reading to change the zoning on 877 and 887 Bybee Branch Road from R-1 low density residential to R-3 High Density Residential. Also passing on first reading was the ordinance that outlines the City Recorder and City Treasurer positions. Finance Director Shirley Durham serves in both capacities for many years but resigned as City Treasurer at the Jan. 25 meeting. Alderman Zach Sutton proposed having a subcommittee to oversee the treasurer. Mayor Ryle Chastain proposed an amendment to have the treasurer report to the city administrator. It failed 5-2. The original motion was passed 6-1 with Alderman Zach Sutton the lone no vote.
