The plan to replace the existing railway bridge at the Sparta St. underpass has been announced to start at the end of the month. City Administrator Nolan Ming said the road to the underpass will close on March 31 at 7am and will reopen April 15
at 6pm. According to Kevin Walker of CSR Engineering he told Ming recently that MES would not shut the line down over the bridge until there were a number of 50 degree days.
Motorists will detour from W. Sparta St,. to Red Road to avoid construction.
One benefit of the project is the clearance will increase from 13’11 to 15′ 0 3/4 inches and will be open to all commercial traffic. The extra clearance will be achieved by removing the existing concrete and replacing with thinner beams. The width clearance will remain the same.
