One of the most discussed new business items Monday night at the monthly County Commission meeting was to adopt the COVID-19 Policy and Procedures for county employees. A motion was made by Commissioner Carl D. Bouldin to require no pay for quarantining due to coming in contact with someone who has contracted covid. Most were in favor but Commissioners Tommy Savage and Deborah Evans did not to do away with it completely.while Commissioner Steven Helton added that some have abused the policy. Under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, employers would provide up to 80 hours where the employee is unable to work because the employee is quarantined and/or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and seeking a medical diagnosis. If passed it would have extended thru June 30,2022. 23 commissioners were in attendance and the motion failed 12-11. Voting for the policy were Commissioners Carlene Brown, David Dunlap, Deborah Evans, Steve Glenn, Robert Hennessee, Ron Lee, Gary Martin, Casey Owens, Christy Ross, Tommy Savage and Tyrone Sparkman. Voting against were Michael Bell, Carl D. Bouldin, Randy England, Steven Helton, Brad Hillis, Daniel Owens, Gary Prater, Scott Rubley, Joseph Stotts, Philip Stout, Cole Taylor and Blaine Wilcher.
In other business, Blaine Wilcher was re-elected chairman of the Warren Co. Commission, County Executive Jimmy Haley recognized Deputy Finance Director Anita Nunley and Judicial Commissioner Ken mullican for their outstanding service to the county. Haley also read a proclamation honoring the late Senator Jerry Cooper for his contributions to Warren Co. and the state of Tennessee. Commissioner Scott Rubley was elected Chairman Pro-Tem while Commissioner Michael Bell was named parliamentarian.
Also 86,850 dollars were appropriated to complete renovations outside the Warren County Administration Building and to commence the storage upgrades for the Warren County Courthouse.
