A two car accident Monday evening at the caution light of Highway 70 and State Route 30 had no injuries but one charged.
According to Trooper Tony Myers of the Tennessee Highway Patrol a 2013 Nissan Altima, driven by 18 year old Hayle Newport of Lebanon was traveling west on Highway 70S and attempting to make a left turn on State Route 30 when she collided with a 1998 Ford Explorer, driven by 23 year old Royal Smith of Sparta traveling eastbound on 70S and came to rest in the eastbound lane on State Route 30. After impact the Explorer overturned and rolled multiple times, colliding with a utility pole and came to rest down the embankment off the 70S roadway. Thankfully Smith wasn’t injured and didn’t need to be transported to the hospital. Newport nor her passenger, 18 year old Johnathan Binkley were injured as well.
Newport was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
