Sexton Uninjured In Accident, Loses Rental House

53 year old Richard Sexton of McMinnville had a series of unfortunate events that took place in the matter of an hour on Saturday. According to Trooper Kevin Ballew of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, around 11:30 am Sexton was stopped at the intersection of highway 56 and 127 in a 2011 Dodge Ram truck awaiting to cross to Shellsford Road when a Hyundai Accent, driven by 31 year old Johnathan Cole of McMinnville, was stopped on 56 attempting a left turn and was struck from behind by a 2003 Chevy, driven by 48 year old Jeff Grissom of McMinnville. the impact pushed the Accent into Sexton and caused damage to his front end, All three vehicles were damaged and towed from the scene. Ballew said Grissom was cited for following improperly. Trooper Andrew Coppinger also assisted.
After the accident, Sexton called one of his employees, Enrique Mendoza, who lived just down Shellsford Road in his rental home to come get him. Mendoza said he left immediately to check on Sexton . After 40 minutes they returned to find half of the home engulfed in flames. Captain Neil Walker of the Collins River Fire Dept. told us that the house was fully engulfed when they arrived. The house and possessions were destroyed in the fire. Mendoza said he was the only one living there. He has two dogs but both were outside and not injured. The fire remains under investigation.
