The safety committee met last week to discuss installing two three-way stops on Post Road.
A request was sent to the board about a number of people speeding on the street and becoming a danger to the residents. A survey was conducted on Post Road with average under 35 miles per hour. A few exceeded 50 mph. There have been no accidents or crashes in the last 5 years but city officials say a three way stop will prevent a lot of speeding in the area. It will be voted by the full board at the next meeting.
At the Building and Grounds Committee meeting they talked about the roof leaks at City Hall. Alderman Everett Brock said money was going to be put in next fiscal year’s budget for repairs but City Administrator Nolan Ming said the leaks are increasing and can’t wait much longer. Just recently Human Resources Director Libby Rutledge was relocated from her office on the 3rd floor. A notice of bids will go out next week. The committee also needed more information from a potential company wanting to lease the former Pacesetters building. Ming told the board that the state had no issues with the city wanting to lease the building. The Magness Drive expansion is set to begin in June of this year and should be completed near the end of 2023.
In other business, the Safety Committee voted to approce a SCBA, or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, for the McMinnville Fire Department at a cost of 59,525 dollars, they also approved an F-250 and F-350 for the water maintenance department and approved a 10,000 dolalr bid for street striping.
