A 13 year old juvenile was hit by a vehicle Saturday evening while standing in line at the Rigor Mortis Haunted House in the Plaza Shopping Center.
According to Lieutenant Mark Mara and Officer Chris McCormick of the McMinnville Police Department the juvenile was standing in line when he thought he dropped his money in the parking lot but realized it was still in the car. When he retrieved his money and was walking back he was struck by a Chevy Equinox. The driver parked and got out and walked away along with his two passengers McCormick said the three were seen a short time later walking down Hobson St.
Arrested was 44 year old Willard Powell of McMinnville. He was charged with DUI, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene and failure to render aid. Also arrested were 24 year old Benjamen Myers of Dunlap, charged with public intoxication. And Powell’s girlfriend, 47 year old Heidi Cripps of Smithville. She was charged with public intoxication and filing a false report. McCormick added that the juvenile that was struck was Cripp’s nephew. And she is also his legal guardian.
The juvenile received an injury to his leg but was not seriously injured. The Department of Childrens Services have stepped in and is investigating.
