Warren Co. Election Administrator Donna Smith announced recently she plans to retire January 1, 2019. Smith has held the position since July 1977.
Smith began working with the election commission in June 1976 under then administrator Marie Wilhite. Smith succeeded Wilhite and became the new administrator in July 1977 which she currently holds today.
Current Election Commissioners: Bill Webb, Patricia Davis, Ben Nixon, Bill Lee, and Charles Yancy are charged with finding her replacement.
Smith turns 62 Dec. 28 and said the time was right for her to retire. She said she plans to do a little traveling across the state and to see what life brings her.
Smith also praised the election commissioners as well as deputies Susie Davenport, Sandy Goble and Inez Nunley for their tireless work and dedication.
Smith was honored last week by the county commissioners for her years of dedicated service to Warren Co.
Smith’s last day is Jan. 1, 2019.
